COMMUNICATION STONE:
Communication Stones are the basis for how all artificial communication works. The stone grows out from the sea and stretches
inland very, very slowly. Once they have reached 1-5 miles they will have tapered off, now too weak to grow further.
Basics:
All Communication Stones are part of a greater whole. The stones themselves grow in from the sea, this means that there is a ring
of them that encase the continent. Even though there are clusters of them here and there, the clusters do nothing to boost their
power or effect the ones near by. What the clusters are good for is allowing for greater yields in Communication Stone Shard
Harvesting.
Communication Stones are a subterranean stone, except when they burst forth from the ground and form a natural tower. These
towers will all be the same width as the stone that is at the beginning of the inward 'prong' which is called the 'Root Stone'. Average
size is 30 feet in diameter.
Root Stone is the name of the first sea located stone. They can tower up to 250 feet in height. This stone is also an indicator as to
where its prong extends out into the land.
The extension or 'prong' of the Root Stone can extend from 1 to 5 miles inland. Along it's length at fairly even intervals of 1 mile,
there will be a large growth. It will look identical to the Root Stone, as well as be the same diameter, but it will not be the same
height. As the inland growing stone looses it's power by getting farther away from the sea, the growths will become smaller until
they are no longer viewable above ground.
Look:
Communication Stones are opaque smooth stones that have large bulbous growths on them. They can range from a pale yellow to
a darker yellow in colour. In the night especially on a full moon, these stones appear to have a faint glow.
Range:
The farthest away a Communication Shard can be from a Communication Stone and still work, is 35 miles. Beyond that point, the
shard will not be able to gain contact with the main stones. It is hard to miss this happening, since once at this distance, there are
no towns, and very little in the way of villages. Watch Huts are set up as a last warning that soon you will be out of contact with
civilization and help if you do not have other means of communication available. Such as a Familiar, or some kind of Imbued Stone
Pendant that allows to you talk to the person who is wearing it's partner.
Communication Shards:
Communication Shards only work when they are naturally shed. Magic is the only thing that can cut this particular crystal but in
doing so it interferes with the removed stones' abilities. Luckily the Communication Stones shed every day and these shards are
collected by the Harvesting Company that is set up around the Root Stones. Not all pieces are useful on their own, but with similar
magic, pieces can be combined to make slightly larger Communication Shards. These natural and magically assisted stones will
be vital for phones, computers, and radios. It is to be noted that Communication Shards are very different from one thing to the
next. You cannot buy a Shard for a Phone and have it work in a Computer or in a Radio for example.
For Phone and Computer, the shards come with billing plans. If a person doesn't pay on time, they will have their shard blocked off
from the source. It can be unblocked once payment is recieved.
Transplantation:
Like many stones one cannot just to over and cut away part of a stone outcrop and 'plant' it elsewhere and expect it to grow.
Attempts have been made to transplant and grow Communication Stones to allow more connected freedom than what currently
exists. These attempts have failed, and are no longer attempted with the stones out of fear of damaging them irreversibly. Other
avenues of advancement are currently being looked into by the Humans. The hope is that with Magic they will be able to extend
communications further into the wilds. Thus allowing safer exploration inland than what is currently achievable.
