Individual Biology:
Species they can Procreate With: Humans
Sexual Organs: Telar males and females are physically the same as humans.
Mating: Telar are fairly prudish about sex. Believing that there's a time and a place for it, and it's not to be talked about. Sex as a
whole is something that their society is very private about, whether you be a teenager, dating couple, married or not, sex is not a
subject that's easily approached.
Mouths: Telar have 38 teeth in their mouths and can taste Salty, Sour, Bitter, Sweet, and Umami.
Teeth: Their mouths are the same as a humans except that the canines are longer. The Canines are a throwback to a time when
the Telar would use their fangs to kill prey. Over the centuries they have shortened, but in the more recent ones that aspect has
plateaued. Leaving the canines of the Telar easily noticeable when they smile.
Hands: Telar have four fingers and a thumb, just like the humans and Magnuri.
Eyes: Only real thing of note about the Telar eyes is that they can see pretty well in the dark. Equal to that of a Bluidons ability.
Smell: Their sense of smell is equal to that of the average human.
Wings:
There are 3 types of wings.
Type A: The Most common type of wings are ones where the membrane of the wing attaches to the base and to the skin on the
back.
Type B: Another less common wing type are ones where the membrane never attaches to the hosts back but tapers into the wing
base itself. These wings can have a more scrawny appearance, versus the more full look of Type A wings.
Type C: This type is rare and also known as 'Fancy Wings'. They are visually appealing and are held above the others even if they
can be labelled as a 'deformity' or a 'defect'. The membrane on Fancy wings has a broken look along the length of the wing. The
upper membrane will be either darker or lighter than the bottom half of it. A fold of skin will also be visible on the inside wing, while
the back will remain smooth. Typically the cut off fold happens closer to the bottom of the membrane, giving the appearance of
there being another wing hiding behind the one being looked at.
Wing Placement: There are four area's that wings can end up sitting on a Telar. Some placements are obviously better than the
others.
Upper Back: Protruding from the shoulder blade area, this placement is the most common.
Middle Back: This placement isn't too uncommon, one can still readily find clothes to wear that have back holes for wings in the
proper area without having to modify other Telar shirts and coats.
Lower Back: Located at the small of the back, these wings tend to allow wearers to wear normal non Telar shirts and have it
bunch up over the wing bases. This is a hard wing position for children to get used to, and can cause injury when they end up sitting
on their little wings. Exercises are done starting at a very early age with wing weights that help strengthen the muscles of the wing
so children can have better control over their movements. By the time they are adults, living with the weight of the wings and using
them, even if it's only keeping them folded, has matured the muscles plenty to keep them from being too bad a nuisance.
Hips: This is the rarest location, and it is also the worst. Wings on the upper hips can become caught when people brush past
them in a crowed, and end up being bumped more than any other wing placement. Hip wings can become damaged easily, but
one positive is that if children fall onto their backs, they do not have to worry about injuring their wings unless they are folded in a
bad position.
Double Wings: Very rarely, double wings can occur, and placement is fairly random, though it has been seen that If wings are on
the Upper back that the other pair will not be in the middle, and if wings are at the lower back that the other will not also be at the
hips. Most common deformity of this type is one full set a wings, and then protruding wing bases that have nothing else. It isn't until
the wings have burst from being buds that one can tell if they will be wings or not. Even if they are useless, families tend to not have
them removed since it is rare and something for the family to be proud of.
Flying: At around age 10 Telar children learn how to fly. Flying is 50% Magic, and 50% physical. Every person has a magical aura
inside of them, every Telar though has an air aura. This aura is opposite of the very earths, and once taught, Telar of any wing type,
can fly, hover and glide. Though admittedly some wing placements make flying and balance a whole lot easier. If a wing is ever lost
or crippled, they loose their ability to fly.
Gestation Period: 9 – 10 months.
Offspring: Typically Telar have one child per pregnancy.
Growth:
Baby: Newborns are born unable to walk, or move on their own. In most cases, babies are not born with their wings fully formed, or
fully grown out of their 'wing sack' which is the protective layer to prevent breakage and harm to them as well to the mother during
birth. After a few weeks the wing sack will have shed off, relieving the delicate wings which a parent has to be careful about. They
are very sensitive and are susceptible to rashes and irritation. Children born without a wing sack can have perfectly fine wings,
though more often then not a wing can become too damaged to heal, leaving it limp or unable to move to it's full functionality.
Adolescent: By this age, wings are usually full grown. Some members of the Telar species can have a few extra years of wing
growth. If a Telar child is going to be able to master the act of flying, by allowing his/her aura to be lifted by the magic which
emanates from the planet, than s/he should have learned how to do so by now. Very rarely will someone older than a teenager
master flight if they previously have been unable to achieve lift. Occasionally youths will still have baby teeth to loose, though this is
rare.
Adult: Like humans, all major natural physical changes that they'll undergo in life are through.
Elder: Being an Elder Telar isn't much of a big thing anymore, though Telar customs do dictate that one is kind to their elders, it's
more out of politeness than much of anything else.
Social Structure: The Wealthiest people who in turn also have the most influence, are part of the Ruling Houses that govern over
Telar laws.
Dwellings: Telar architecture hasn't changed at all in the past few centuries. They have found what they like and will be sticking to
that. Usually the homes are two to three stories tall wood panelled houses that have both a basement/cellar and an attic.
Language: The Telar have both a Common language, and an Ancient one, which is primarily used by their scholars and by nearly
all mages. Their Ancient language is also known as the Magic 'Runic Language' which most mages have had to learn to cast their
spells.
Religion: They worship the ancient gods of long past. Many people, even some Telar youths are not aware of the gods
themselves. Many Telar are religious and will pray and light a candle which is an old representation of Gods warmth. Unlike other
religions, the Telar are very private about their own, not due to the lack of wanting to share, it is just one of those things that most
people either do not find of interest, or due to not hearing about it. In more recent decades, a number of Telar have converted from
their private beliefs to be worshippers of Ahn.
Inter species Relations:
Typically they are seen as snooty and stuck up. By some races more so than others.
Apolarins: Like many species, especially the new ones, they are not liked. They are seen as slow, unintelligent and more
bothersome than anything else. To them adults should never act like children, even if one is in a new place. There is good etiquette
and a pride that goes along with being of an older age. That the Apolarins just do not display.
Bluidons: While they do have strong ties with the blue people, Telar do not trust the Bluidons. The way the species gathers
information and the friendly way they approach everyone puts them on edge. The feeling that the Bluidons 'Know too much' and the
worry of what they'll do with it is strong. Still if interactions happen, they will go smoothly overall.
Feliniks: Are viewed as worse than the Apolarins. They view the race as incapable of acting like adults, of making proper
decisions. Their belief that the High Priest Zack Ironhorse IS the god Ahn has done nothing to change their views of the small cat
like species.
Humans: They have good ties with the humans, and have worked with them over the centuries to make their world a better place.
While humans worked with the building, Telar worked with the legal structure, both species worked together to form laws and
together they created the Empire.
Magnuri: Thanks to the war, and the part that the Magnuri played in it, Telar out right just do not trust them. Unless they had to
interact with a Magnuri for a set purpose, Telar would seek other people and avenues before dealing with the scaled people.
