How they live:
Feliniks live in the tree city of Undropa, which is found in the Forest of
Redrik. The forest covers a massive area of North West Sahnlinn, and
extends from the coast, to the mountains, and stops before the climate
begins to get too cold, where it turns into the rocky terrain that slowly
becomes the tundra of the north.
The Trees in the Redrik forest can grow to become six hundred feet tall
on average. Under the forest is an underground river that comes from
the sea. Below the water, are Earth stones, the greatest deposit of them
that have ever been found. It is believed, that due to these earth stones,
that the trees of the Redrik have been able to grow to such an immense
size.
Their is a network of rope bridges and wooden walkways that connect the
tree dwellings to each other.
The homes themselves are built around and into the tree trunk. This
gives the homes stability when the ocean and mountain winds converge
into the forest.
What they Eat:
Fish.
Feliniks don't like the water, the feeling of their fur getting wet is a horrid
feeling and it can take quite a while to dry out properly. The bravest of
Feliniks are the ones that gather the food.
Before, this role was simply called 'The Gatherers'. Now it's been
changed and they are recognized as 'Fisher Cats'.
The Fisher Cats are lowered down to the sea in small boats, where they
then row out into the open waters and drop vine nets into the sea. They
then will drag the net around, and when they feel that they've done it for
long enough, they'll pull the net in, and have fish in it. At this time they'll
drop the fish off into a large flat, low sided boat that has one occupant
and continue the process. When the 'Collection' boat is full, the Felinik
will head back to where the ropes are, connect them to his boat, and will
then be raised up and the fish removed by workers. Once empty, it'll be
lowered again, and the process starts over.
Their Society:
Everybody ends up working, because everybody is good at
something.
Nobody is stuck to one job. If you're good at more than one thing,
you're free to wander around the jobs and do what you feel like
doing.
In the way of jobs, anybody can be anything, though Fisher Cat's
tend to only be male.
Feliniks tend to be quite young when they start their families. Only at
this time do they move from their family home.
When asked to join the Empire, Feliniks weren't sure if they wanted
to. The prospect was scary and they've always kept to themselves. It
was when Empress Emerelda presented foreign fish to the Feliniks
that they agreed to join. Even if this seemed shallow at the time,
there is a reasoning behind it.
Feliniks believe that their god Udroga is the one that populates the
sea with their food. Enabling the ones that warship it, life. Seeing
that fish that they'd never seen before, were found in a strange
place, meant to them that they were suppose to join, and expand.
Kits:
Traditionally Feliniks have their first and possibly only litter
of kits, when they're between fourteen and sixteen years of
age.
Though due to recently joining the Empire, it is already
being seen that the outside influences are changing
things. Feliniks are already waiting longer to have families
and are spending more time being themselves.
Kits usually come in litters of one to three and are quite
lethargic for the first few weeks. After that they become
quite vocal in their wants, and after a month and a half to
two months they are actively moving around on their own,
and getting into all sorts of trouble.
New mothers in the Empire, have discovered that other
species have a hard time, distinguishing their kits from
actual cats and kittens. So far this hasn't had any overall
negative effects, though there has been an incident of a
female Felinik supposedly 'stealing' a kitten from a pet
store. After being apologized to, and getting a life time
discount on any wares in their store, the female Felenik
was left, happy the incident was over.
Dogs:
Feliniks don't like dogs, or canine, animals or monsters of any kind. There
is also an understandable reason for this.
When the Feliniks first began making homes for themselves, long ago, back
with leaves, and sticks, and skins of animals that they hunted and then
used the bodies for bait, they lived on the ground in the Forest of Redrik.
They lived happily here for many generations, working themselves into
understanding pully stystems, and making better ropes, and using fibers
from the massive leaves to make 'cloth' of a sort.
Up north at this time, a very cold and rare arctic wind was reaching lower
south than ever before. Many animals froze due to the horrible chill. This in
turn drove the Large Tundra Wolves southward. By the time they got over
the lifeless rocky terrain the packs of wolves had gathered together, and by
this time were starved for food. They entered the forest, killing the animals
that were around, and feasting as best they could. Due to their far smaller
stature, they needed More.
Near the end of the wolves travels, they encountered a Felinik village. Still
in need of food, and being driven almost mad by the lack of nutrients, they
attacked the village.
The survivors of the village, decided that, this was a warning against living
on the ground. It was at this time, that this story was then written, making it
the first piece of Felinik recorded history.
Over the years and decades of the Feliniks moving from ground to trees,
the story was slowly misinterpreted, making the new generations believe
that canines were an ill omen.
From that point on, Feliniks have learned of this story, teaching their ktis,
early on that dogs are to be feared.
Physiology:
The claws on Feliniks are always extended to a point.
This doesn't mean that they can't continue to extend
their claws out.
Their feet and their hands in particular are large. Many
Feliniks still climb trees and run on fours. They are all
fairly lean but strong. Able to on average, carry
themselves, and another of their weight, up a steep
incline if needed.
Feliniks have evolved to the point where walking on their
back legs is normal, if speed in needed though and they
can, they will quickly revert to 'Rushing'.
Their tails are used for balance, though if something
happens to it, they are still able to adjust, only after a
long time of healing and a lot of learning.
If unhappy their fur will stand on end. Most notably the
thicker fur along their spine and tails. They will also hiss
and bare their teeth in warning. If the threat, whatever it
maybe doesn't leave. They will then either 'Rush' away
or will attempt to attack.
