BOOKS:
Note: The term 'Books' is only being applied to personal reading and not including the overwhelming amount of Scholarly
Texts/Tombs, Magic books and the like.
There are many books that fit into many sub-genres. All the main genres for books are the same as what Movies have, though
books are more well known to have mixing and matching of genres. The possibilities are endless.
Fictional Historical Drama is the largest genre for books. There are books of this type for all ages and species. It should be noted
that extra sub-genres can fit onto this type. Like Mysteries, Horror, Romance, etc.
TELEVISION:
Cable Television exists in the Empire and only the Empire has televisions. This is not due to the Empire hoarding their technology,
but more so due to the technology that they have not working in other places. Television is available in all 4 major cities. It is fairly
non existent outside of them due to the issues with making it work. The only places that would have television outside of the main
cities would be the larger towns that lay between them.
The Empire has a standard set of 30 channels, which include a Weather Channel, A Guide Channel, as well as an all time 'Empire
News' Channel.
There are 15 specialty channels that can be purchased individually or in packages. These channels are privately owned and
provide their own content.
MOVIES:
The most common types of movies in Sahnlinn are Drama, Romance, Comedies, and Horror/Thriller. There is no Science Fiction.
Humans were the first species to make movies. With help and focus from the Telar genres were solidified. Drama and Romance
have the most Telar influence. Comedy is mostly Human though there are 'dry' and 'dark humor' movies that are very well liked by
the Telar.
Horror and Thriller are also Human in make. This is the genre that is most plagued with speciest themes. A plethora of very old
movies are known to depict monsters that look uncomfortably like the Telar. Another example is during the 10 years of the war,
many movies came out where the unseen or shadowed antagonist has the look of a Magnuri. Humans have also been portrayed in
unflattering lights, which is seen as only fair after some of the other movies. Apolarins don't have an issue with how they have
occasionally been portrayed in movies. Bluidons always have the same role in all movies as the Creepy/Mysterious Merchant.
Feliniks have yet to be portrayed as villains. Many feel they are too cute and not threatening. Though there are currently people who
strive to show others that they can be as terrifying as anyone else.
MUSIC:
Traditional Music:
Traditional types of music are Folk/Country, Blues, Jazz.
Folk/Country: This type of music, usually played with string instruments are used to tell stories. Many tales from species have
been adapted into song with this style.
Blues: Also used for stories, these are smaller and more contained. Though singers have been known to use the blues as a way
to tell lengthy stories, this use is relatively newer.
Jazz: Is a creation of the Telar. Heavy with horns, and strings, as well as bells. Jazz musicians typically are Telar in species.
Though instrumental pieces are most common, there are some singers who have made their own blend of Jazz which has singing
as a part of it. Jazz is more about abstract concepts than straightforward story which sets it apart from other forms of music.
Newer Music:
Rock: This form of music is 20 years old. Starting after the end of the war, it picked up in popularity after the first few years of
being around. It is considered a type of music that represents freedom, and new beginnings. Unlike some other forms of music,
this type tells both stories that can be considered epics as well as ditties.
Dance/Electronic: This is the newest type of music at 5 years old. This form of music is new due to advancements in technology
and electronics. Dance is known for it's strong fast beats, plethora of disjointed sounds, repeated lyrics and loud volume. This type
of music is not favoured by the Telar or Feliniks for very different reasons.
